San José Silicon Valley Chamber Endorses Sam Liccardo for Mayor
San José, CA – The San José Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce this week voted to endorse City Councilman Sam Liccardo for mayor. The announcement comes on the heels of Liccardo’s victory in the June 3 primary and his endorsement by current Mayor Chuck Reed.
“Sam Liccardo knows what it takes to help businesses in our city create high wage jobs. He’s showing how government can spend smarter and do more without breaking the bank,” said Matt Mahood, President and CEO of the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We join with Mayor Chuck Reed and so many others in support Sam Liccardo because we know he’ll continue to move San José forward.”
“Silicon Valley is the most innovative region of the world. Our business leaders understand the importance of searching out new ideas and solutions to address pressing problems. I’m proud to accept the Chambers endorsement today as we work to make sure San José is just as innovative as Silicon Valley,” said Liccardo.
On the city council, Liccardo has put forward a number of initiatives to make San José government more efficient and effective without spending more. He has worked to cut red tape for small businesses and put in place policies to foster business growth – such as his successful proposal to use surplus city parking spots to encourage businesses to locate Downtown.
Liccardo is also the only candidates in the race for mayor to put forward a detailed plan for how we can continue to grow our economy and broaden prosperity by making better use of existing resources and building public-private partnerships. Those ideas can be found online here.
The Chamber now joins a diverse coalitions of organizations, civic and business leaders supporting Sam Liccardo, including former Mayors Susan Hammer, Tom McEnery and Ron James, the Mercury News, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters and dozens more.
