Momentum Liccardo
We’ve been so busy making good news we haven’t taken a moment to report it to all of our friends and supporters. So here is a recap of some incredible news that all points in one direction – the momentum in this race is now all with Sam Liccardo.
First – according to a survey by Moore Methods, this race is now statistically tied – meaning we’ve moved up nearly 20 points since the beginning of the year and all the momentum is with us. The survey shows the November race starts Cortese 42 and Liccardo 41, a statistical tie. But as soon as voters hear even basic biographical information on the candidate, we move into the lead. And when voters hear Sam’s plan for a safer and smarter San José, we gain a strong lead.
The Cortese campaign has been pushing their “lead” in the race. There is no lead – and all the momentum is with Sam Liccardo – thanks to you. You can read about the poll online here.
Thank You Madison Nguyen
Right after our poll came out of the field we got even better news. Sam is proud to have earned the sole endorsement of Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen and the dual endorsement of the Santa Clara County Democratic Club. They join the Sierra Club, the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and many more in a recent surge of support for our campaign. Some people are so enthusiastic they’re even lifting our yard signs! If you haven’t already, show your support by adding your name to our supporter list today.
Dramatically Outraising the Cortese Camp
The new financial filings show Cortese napping, and thanks to your help we outraised him in June by nearly 4 to 1. We have a long way to go to meet our goals – and we’re not going to make the same mistake he seems to be making by taking a rest. But thanks to your generosity, we’re showing the same momentum in fundraising that we are showing in the polls.
Cortese Flip-Flops, Stumbles and Just Gets Weird
We’re surging because of the hard work of this team, but the truth is that we are also gaining momentum because of what appears to be a pattern of chaos in Cortese’s camp.
In just the past few weeks: Cortese’s campaign manager quit; he was forced to fire his press secretary after allegations of sexist and just plain weird behavior; he flip-flopped on taxes and said he wanted to raise taxes with no guarantee of how the money would be spent; and then, flip-flopped on accepting the city’s voluntary spending limits.
And just this week, San Jose Inside reported new ethics troubles for Dave Cortese. The city has already taken him to court once this month for his disregard of election laws – now tens of thousands of dollars in donations have been called into question and the City Clerk has already confirmed that many of those donations “do not comply with city election code.” Cortese’s actions raise a number of questions for voters on whether he is unwilling or incapable of following the law, which is certainly not a characteristic we want to see in our mayor.
Turning Up the Heat
But we’re not going to count on Cortese defeating himself – we have to keep turning up the heat. That’s why we’re knocking on doors and calling voters every day – and our dedicated volunteers help us cover even more ground. But with over 200,000 people set to vote in November, we need reinforcements. Come down to our headquarters and help us make phone calls or knock on doors. Or sign up to host a house party to get the word out in your neighborhood.
