Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters Endorses Sam Liccardo for Mayor

Liccardo Has Led Initiatives to Bring BART to San José, Improve Public Spaces and Promote the Green Economy

San José, CA – City Councilman and mayoral candidate Sam Liccardo has been endorsed by the Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters (SCCLCV) for his leadership on environmental issues. Liccardo has a long history of working to make San José more environmentally-friendly and a better place for families to live and work.

“Sam Liccardo has worked hard to bring BART to San José, to improve parks and public spaces and make San José a center of the green economy. His innovative efforts have made a real, positive difference in the lives of residents. As mayor, we know that he’ll continue to work to implement these types of smart government plans to protect and improve the environment,” said Shiloh Ballard, SCCLCV Boardmember.

“I’m very honored to receive this endorsement from our local environmental leaders who understand San José’s unique green assets and needs,” said Liccardo. “Green policies aren’t just good for the environment – they improve the quality of life for all our residents.  They also cut down on carbon emissions, pollution and waste so that we leave a healthier city for our children and grandchildren.”

On the city council, Sam Liccardo has been an effective advocate for environmentally-friendly policies. He successfully led a citywide task force to revise the General Plan to halt sprawling development in hillsides and open spaces. He worked to make parks and public spaces more accessible to residents. He spearheaded an innovative public-private partnership to employ homeless residents to clean the creeks in which they formerly lived, in exchange for housing. Additionally he helped lead the effort to bring BART to San José, implement bus-rapid transit and launch ZipCar and bike share programs.
