PRESS RELEASE

Board of the Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters Endorses
Sam Liccardo for Mayor of San Jose

San Jose, CA – The Board of the Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters has endorsed Councilmember Sam Liccardo for Mayor of San Jose after extensive background research, detailed examination of questionnaire responses, and extensive interviews with the principal candidates. The endorsement is based on the careful evaluation of the candidates’ past and promised environmental record.

While each of the candidates who requested interviews has some laudable environmental characteristics and goals, Councilmember Liccardo’s past performance and consistent declaration of future environmental objectives was exemplary. His leadership on such litmus test issues as the single-use carry out (plastic bag) and EPS (Styrofoam food ware) ordinances, support for transit and focused growth around rail stations, and long-term opposition to development beyond the ‘Greenline’ urban growth boundary, especially his long-term protection of Coyote Valley from urban sprawl, set him apart from the other candidates.

The Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters takes pleasure in supporting Councilmember Liccardo to be the next Mayor of San Jose and has made the maximum allowable donation to the campaign. We stand ready to respond to questions regarding this momentous contest that will so seriously affect the future of the region.

The Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters (SCCLCV) is the local chapter of the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV). The SCCLCV is responsible for endorsing and supporting environmentally oriented candidates on behalf of the CLCV within Santa Clara County.
